WRAPS Community Theater – the theatrical branch of the Winding Rivers Arts and Performance Society – has presented a truly remarkable run of highly successful theater productions over the past several years.
Under the deft directorial talents of Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan WRAPS has brought to the boards an amazing variety of plays to an ever appreciative audience. Comedies and Shakespearean Drama (Midsummer Night Midterm), Zombies and Pirates (Swamp Pirate Zombies), Criminally hilarious morality plays (Switching Principles), last years side-splitting classic play featuring two spinsters who kill lonely old men for the sake of the community (Arsenic and Old Lace), and of course 2015’s now legendary presentation of My Fair Lady.

In that time a very experienced local amateur repertory company has developed. We all know that the Ashcroft/Cache Creek area is blessed with an astounding number to truly talented actors, as well as musicians and artists. Actors such as John kidder, Jim McLean, Barbara Roden, Nancy Duchaine, David Dubois, Celia McLean and many, many others are all but household names due to their past remarkable performances in many of the above mentioned plays. Add to this the stand out performances by Daniel Nichols, Marina Papais, Mark Armstrong and Jim Mertel – all relative new-comers to local theater scene – in last years ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ and we have a outstanding group of thespians capable of doing justice to any theatrical project they put their considerable talent and energies behind.
(And lets not forget the unsung heroes of these productions – the “behind the scenes” people without whom these “scenes” would not exist – Director Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan, Set designer and constructor Jim Duncan and his team, Stage Manager Jessica Clement and this year’s Producer Susan McLean and Music Director Theresa Takacs; plus those talented and dedicated souls who look after the many technical aspects of theater production such as sound and lighting and costumes and makeup).
WRAPS is proud to announce that this creative group is at it again! Coming in early November WRAPS Community Theater will delight us all once more with another musical theatrical presentation – “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical“! This play is based on the famous Canadian novel “Anne of Green Gables” by Lucy Maud Montgomery with music by Norman Campbell and lyrics by Don Harron.
Not only are many of the above mentioned seasoned local actors involved but

most importantly the script calls for the participation of many young people, with Vivian McLean (remember the leader of the study group from Midsummer Night’s Midterm?) taking the the title role of the creative and precocious Anne Shirley.
Auditions are finalized and the cast is now working with Music Director Theresa Takacs to learn the
multitude of songs – both solo and group – that this engaging production demands. Stay tuned to this website and our Facebook page for further news about the development of what will surely be another fantastically entertaining theater event from WRAPS!
