Opening night for the latest WRAPS Community Theater production ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ is fast approaching and the buzz and anticipation is steadily mounting. It was almost a year ago that this same dedicated core group of actors – under the sure-handed guidance of director Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan – astounded and delighted hundreds of theater goers from all around the region with their amazing presentation of the classic musical ‘My Fair Lady’.
Though far less extravagant and technically ambitious than ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ is a delightful comedic farce by Joseph Kesserling that has been seen and enjoyed by millions of people all over the world since it first opened in January of 1941. On September 25, 1943, the play moved to the Hudson Theater on Broadway. It closed there on June 17, 1944, having played 1,444 performances – making it the longest running Broadway theatrical production to the time, and now the sixth longest running show in Broadway history!
‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ has seen many adaptations for radio and television, and was made into a Hollywood movie in 1944 – directed by Frank Capra and starring Carey Grant.
Below is the official schedule of times and dates for the presentation of ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’. There will be 5 shows in all, 3 evening performances and 2 afternoon matinées. All shows will be presented at the Ashcroft HUB gymnasium. Admission is by donation. So pencil in a date to bring yourself and your friends and family to come and enjoy this uproariously funny, engaging and memorable rendition of a classic play brought to you by the wonderful WRAPS Community Theater!
