The Fine and Dramatic Arts Camp is a week-long educational opportunity for local students aged 4 – 17 being held August 15th to 19th at the Ashcroft HUB. We bring artists, musicians, and actors who introduce the students to different aspects of art, creativity, and expression. The students leave the camp with a better understanding of art, music, and theatre. They are also be able to express themselves by creating their own artwork, performing different styles of music, and seeing what it’s like to take part in live theatre. Jo Petty will be back again this year to get messy with the students as they express themselves using many different techniques that they are shown. Mavourneen Varcoe-Ryan will be back as well to teach the theatre aspect of the camp. Dave Dumont will be returning, but will be presenting band instruments to the students this year. New to the line-up is Theresa Tackas, a local singer and pianist, who will be taking over the singing portion of the camp. Students will be split into 4 groups based on age and rotate through the 4 art forms twice throughout the week. Friday will feature a fun morning for the whole camp and then preparing for and delivering a final public performance for family, friends, and the general public.
For those students over 11, there is the option to send the whole week with Gareth Smart learning the art of movie making. The students last year wrote, started and recorded their very own short film, all in just four days.
Registration is $50 per student, with any additional siblings being $30. Snacks are provided each day and we ask that students come with a bagged lunch and a water bottle. A smock or old t-shirt is also handy to keep clean clothes clean during art class.
