Finally! Spring has arrived in Ashcroft, and summer is just around the bend!
The dusting of snow is disappearing from hills to be replaced by the unique tawny green of our native sage; the lilacs are in bloom, infusing the warming breeze with their ivory and amethystine aroma; and the mesas and bench lands surrounding the valley are carpeted with verdant vegetable emerald. Our bodies and hearts are invigorated with the hope and promise of bright days ahead filled with warmth and fun and, of course, music and song!
For live music lovers everywhere, we look forward to another delightful season of Music in the Park! The Winding Rivers Arts and Performance Society is excited to again have the lovely parks in Ashcroft ring out in song and merriment for the 6th summer in a row. As in past seasons, WRAPS will be presenting the best in live music on Wednesday evenings for all to enjoy.
This year we welcome back three performers who have thrilled us in seasons past (Andrea Smith, Tanya Lipscomb and Paisley Groove), as well as welcoming a band who will be playing here for the first time (Linda Parke and the Royal Coachmen). We will also be showcasing the fine talents of local musicians and song-smiths Nadine Davenport, Jennifer Ferguson and John Kidder. All performances will be presented at the Gazebo of the Ashcroft Heritage Park, with one exciting exception.
Due to the overwhelming success last year, this season’s final Music in the Park show will again feature the marvellous classic rock music of Paisley Groove! Last August WRAPS partnered with the local Kids TRY-athlon Club (lead by Vicky Trill) in support of their annual outdoor movie night fund raiser – and what a wonderful time that was!
In order to give our hard working group of volunteers some much deserved time off in the summer, we are forgoing our past practice of holding a concert every second Wednesday of the summer months and instead will be hosting two shows in June (8th and 22nd), one show on July 27th and the will be closing out the season with one show on August 24th.
Stay tuned to this website and our Facebook page for more information about this years WRAPS Music in the Park series. Summer in Ashcroft would just not be the same without it!
